Since Disney+ launched, a lot of things have been happening on the streaming scene. New series has arrived, some of them aroused great fan interest, such as Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Many new series with high ambitions have been announced. There are various rumors about the return of favorite superhero characters in some of these new series.
Disney+ is designed as the exclusive home to stream movies and TV shows from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney’s own studios.
We are most interested in what will be in the SciFi collection of the new streaming service.
As we mentioned before, after a few first episodes, The Mandalorian turned out very well, much reminiscent of good old Star Wars movies. And it’s generally well-received by fans. It’s a big-budget Star Wars spinoff series with Pedro Pascal in the lead. And the second season is already in the scriptwriting stage.
A Star Wars prequel series based on Rogue One starring Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) has also been announced.
After the well-known Avengers: Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, and others who have had their films, those who haven’t had one will have their own show. Marvel TV shows for Hawkeye, WandaVision, and Falcon and The Winter Soldier have been announced. Also, Loki, with Tom Hiddleston in the lead role, will have his own series. Black Widow with Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff will have her movie. The Doctor Strange sequel will tie into Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision. The series will focus on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) and Paul Bettany’s Vision.
More new series
One of those new series with high expectations is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) will officially reprise their roles in that new series. Rumors have emerged that Chris Evans as Captain America may appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series. Also, projects are on-going for some other Marvel superheroes such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight.
Interestingly, one of the movies we won’t be able to watch on Disney+ (though it’s a Marvel movie) is Spider-Man: Homecoming due to distribution rights.
Disney+ officially launched on November 12, 2019, in the US, Canada and the Netherlands. And in Australia and New Zealand, it was launched a little later, on November 19. The streaming service for the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain will launch on March 31, 2020, says Disney. Disney+ costs $7 a month in the US, or $5.83 a month if you prepay for a full year ($70 total).
So to sum it up, will this be a streaming service with high-quality SciFi and worth subscribing to? Well, given the collection of Star Wars and Marvel current and future movies and TV shows, and that the first Star Wars series turned out to be good, we think it’s worth it.
